Facebook Note: “Playing Chess Again – a pithy autobiographical fairytale”
A long, long time ago, in the country of HSchooldom, there lived a princess called Mini*Me who had no idea she was living on borrowed time. She’d carved a pumpkin of a charmed life, where she’d surrounded herself with fairy BFFs as clueless as she was. The clock would occasionally strike twelve, when expectations reached critical levels and she had to meet them in jousts, but that arena, she knew too well, was like taffy – it melted in the summer sun.
When her evil step-fate upped and moved her to the country of Collegedom, our tale takes a turn for the sinister, the horrific, the state-that-shall-not-be-named – however, for the sake of decryption, let’s dub this state Real-Life.
Our hero-lass grew colder in what seemed like a never-ending tug-of-war with the enemies within. She would engage in regular battles with the darkest knights of the nearby country of Depressiondom: Sir Exam, Sir Escapism (aka Sir Procrastination) and Sir Passive-Aggression. But the nastiest of all was their king, the hypochondriac control freak who went by the name Insanity Looms and challenged princess Mini*Me to chess games she would only narrowly win.
Her BFFs grew tired of knocking on the door of her ivory tower, not knowing if the pet dragon she’d been suckling with bitter tears would rear its head in her place – so one day…Read more
